The first chapters of this book are available for preview on amazon kindle, with pieces on preview on google books,  and that’s how much I have read by now.  Excited to read the rest!

Move a Little, Lose a Lot: New N.E.A.T. Science Reveals how to be Thinner, Happier, and Smarter is a book by James A. Levine, an obesity specialist.  N.E.A.T. stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis.  He suggests that changing daily routines and adding lots of small movement in your day is the best way to stay healthy.

Lessons for Yogis:

1) Flood your environment with prominent cues for movement.  One example was to have a yoga mat next to the bed, as a reminder to move your body first thing and last thing in the day.

2) Walking is encouraged to center the body and calm the mind.  A Walking Meditation can be part of a N.E.A.T. practice.

3) When you have long hours at a desk, stop and stretch every half-hour or so.  It’s really good for you to break up sedentary behavior.  So why not step away from your desk several times a day to try a couple minutes of yoga poses?

Here’s the NYT article with scary facts and Levine’s studies!
